ReVision Energy already has a Bar Harbor Community Solar Farm under development and has plans for additional solar farm projects to support interested garnered in the Solarize MDI program. The Solarize tiered pricing will be applied to the price of a Community Solar Farm shares for MDI residents and businesses. Solar farms are a great way to enable residents and businesses to benefit from solar energy even if they do not have a great site for solar panels, or lease/rent their home or business.
What are Community Solar Farms?
Community solar farms (CSFs) allow individuals to gather together to go solar, investing in a larger solar array than would go on a single roof and allowing the group to benefit from economies of scale.
Unlike traditional rooftop solar, members of a CSF don’t need to have a good rooftop site or even own their home. All the generation of their share of a solar farm will automatically be added to their electric bill each month. Members will see those credits reduce or eliminate their electric bill, and are able to bank summertime credits for use in the winter.
The value of producing solar energy is avoiding the purchase of finite, polluting and increasingly costly fossil fuels. Once you get 100% of your initial investment returned through energy savings, the system will continue to deliver a revenue stream for decades to come. Plus, the system will eliminate thousands of pounds of heat-trapping CO2 emissions each year, delivering a powerful environmental benefit.
